Q: Is car parking available at Welburn Lodge?
A: Yes, we have ample parking space for all our guests.
Q: We want to spend a whole day in York. Is it practical to leave our car at Welburn Lodge and take the bus into the city?
A: Absolutely. Many of our guests catch one of the regular Yorkehire Coastliner buses that stop directly outside. Buses run right up to 11pm in the evening.
Q: Any suggestions for interesting local walks?
A: Welburn Lodge is situated in a designated Area of Natural Beauty and very popular for gentle strolls. The trail through the Derwent Valley to Kirkham Priory is highly recommended. So too are the walks around the Castle Howard estate which reward explorers with close-up views of many unusual monuments and follies. Q: We are planning on staying three nights. What would you recommend we do during our two full days?
A: If you’ve never been to York before allow one full day to explore this unique historical city. If grand country houses are your thing, Castle Howard is one of England’s finest stately homes and we suggest allowing half to a full day to experience the magnificent building and grounds.
A popular full day motoring tour from Welburn Lodge takes in the charming market towns of Helmsley and Pickering; across the North Yorkshire Moors to the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarbourgh.
There so much more to see – take a look at our Visitor Attraction page where each symbol on the map links directly to each attraction’s websites.

A: We love surprises and happily accommodate special requests. From simply placing a pre-posted card in the room to arranging for flowers or chocolates, call us to chat about your ideas.
Q: We’re overseas visitors, what are the advantages of staying at a small B&B like Welburn Lodge rather than a larger hotel?
A: Being smaller gives us the opportunity to get to know all our guests and provide practical help and advice. Apart from usual tourist pointers we are often asked and happy to answer questions about local customs and general advice regarding your to your trip to the UK.
Q: Is it true that you fly the nation’s flag of your overseas visitors?
A: Yes it is and it’s always very well received. We have acquired quite a collection of flags now.
Q: Do you provide evening meals?
A: We’re sorry but we don’t. However, there is a very good choice of places to dine nearby. We are always happy to help you choose and book a table on your behalf. Click on this link for: Dine Around Information.
